Earlier, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a warning that the dam was expected to overflow, as it had already reached 79.90 meters by 12:20 a.m. due to continuous rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon.
"Excess floodwater from La Mesa Dam will overflow if the dam elevation reaches 80.15 meters," PAGASA stated in its advisory.
The weather bureau cautioned that the overflow from La Mesa Dam could impact low-lying areas along the Tullahan River in Quezon City, particularly Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria, and San Bartolome.
The affected areas also include parts of Valenzuela, especially Barangay Ligon, North Expressway, La Huerta Subdivision, and Malabon.
