The Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino (KWF) ordered schools and libraries to pull out books that are “political” “subversive” and “anti-government”.
In a memorandum approved on Aug. 9 but released on Thursday, KWF said the banning of the books will keep them from being “liable” from Section 9 of the RA 11479 or Anti-Terrorism Law.
Section 9 of the Anti-Terror law states that “any person who, without taking any direct part in the commission of terrorism, shall incite others to the execution of any acts incited in Section by means of speeches, proclamation, writings, emblems, banners, or other representation tending to do the same end, shall suffer the penalty of imprisonment of 12 years.”
The department is banning the following books “Teatro Politikal Dos” by Malou Jacob and “Kalatas: Mga Kuwentong Bayan at Kuwentong Buhay,” by Rommel B. Rodriquez
It was also ordered to pull out a book about the work of late National Artist Bienvenido Lumbera during the martial law period. The “Tawid-diwa sa Pananagisag ni Bienvenido Lumbera: Ang Bayan, at Manunulat, at ang Magasing Sagisag sa Imahinatibong Yugto ng Batas Militar 1975-1979” by Dexter B. Cayanes.
Among the books also included in the list are “Labas: Mga Palabas sa Labas ng Sentro” ni Reuel M. Aguila and “May Hadlang ang Umaga” by Don Pagusara.
