MANILA – Korea is deeply concerned about the recent bombing incident at the Mindanao State University (MSU) which killed four and left 43 persons injured last Sunday during a Catholic mass in the predominantly Muslim city of Marawi in Lanao de Sur.
In his remarks during a luncheon for Philippine media hosted by the Korean Embassy on Tuesday, Ambassador Lee Sang-hwa said that they remain deeply concerned about the incident and believes that “violence, especially against innocent civilians, can never be tolerated under any circumstances.”
Lee emphasized that Korea is in solidarity with the Philippine government and people of the Philippines and extend their deepest condolences to the victims and families of the incident.
Other foreign embassies and their diplomats also extended messages of condolences and solidarity to the victims and families affected by the bombing and has expressed in the strongest possible terms their condemnation of the incident, calling it a “terrorist attack” and “senseless act of violence”.
They also expressed support to the Philippine government for actions to be undertaken to ensure that the perpetrators will be held responsible at the soonest possible time.
In MSU’s official statement, it said that “violence has no place in a civilized society, and it is particularly abhorrent in an institution of higher learning like MSU, a bulwark of peace, harmony, solidarity, reverence for life and humanity.”
“This attack is an assault on our core values and our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive community for all,” the statement added.
