Six people have been killed and one injured in an early morning knife attack at a kindergarten in southern China's Guangdong province on Monday, a spokeswoman for the city government said.
"The victims include one teacher, two parents and three students," the spokesperson said.
She made no mention of the victims' names or ages, nor did she disclose the nature of the attack's weapon, which occurred in the city of Lianjiang.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old suspect has been detained according to a police in a statement posted in social media.
It has been said that the man started his rampage at 7:40 a.m.
One teacher, two parents, and three children were among the victims.
Attacks on school children have been a long-standing issue in China.
Over a decade ago, China's then-premier Wen Jiabao appeared on television and pledged to improve school security and make efforts to address underlying issues.
