Filipina-Canadian Swimmer Kayla Sanchez advances to the semifinals of the women's 100 meters freestyle event in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
Sanchez registered a time of 53.67 seconds to finish fourth in her heat, and grabbed one of the 16 semifinals spots.
Siobhan Haughey of Singapore topped the heat with a time of 53.02 seconds while Marrit Steenbergen of Netherlands clocked in 53.22 seconds to place second.
Torri Huske of the United States grabbed third placed after finishing with a time of 53.53 seconds.
Sanchez finished in 10th place among all the 29 swimmers competing in the said event, and shattered the national record, 54.25 seconds, which she set last June.
During the last Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, Sanchez, who then represented Canada, won the silver medal in 4x100 meters freestyle event, and bronze in the 4x100 meters medley event.
Now wearing the Philippine flag, Sanchez will seek to add another Olympic medal to her collection.
