U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris emphasized the importance of accepting the final election results and assured a peaceful transition of power to the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump.
In her concession speech to the nation on November 6, Kamala Harris expressed her gratitude to supporters following the conclusion of the election.
"My heart is full today - full of gratitude for the trust you have placed in me, full of love for our country, and full of resolve," said Harris.
"The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for, but hear me when I say, the light of America's promise will always burn bright," she added.
Harris expressed pride in the campaign she and her supporters ran, highlighting their dedication to building a strong community and forming coalitions.
She emphasized their intentional efforts to bring together people from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds.
"We must accept the results of this election," Harris mentioned.
"Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition, and that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power," she added.
She further stated that a fundamental principle of American democracy is that when one loses an election, they must accept the results.
She added that this principle, more than any other, sets democracy apart from anarchy or tyranny.
Furthermore, Harris emphasized that in the nation, loyalty is owed not to a president or a political party, but to the Constitution of the United States.
"While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign, the fight for freedom, the fight for opportunity, for fairness, and the dignity of all people,"said Harris.
Harris pledged that she would never give up the fight for a future where Americans can freely pursue their dreams, ambitions, and aspirations.
Moreover, she vowed to continue the fight for a future where women in America have the freedom to make decisions about their own bodies, without the government dictating what they can or cannot do.
"We will never give up our fight to protect our schools and our streets from gun violence," Harris said.
The incumbent Vice President also expressed her gratitude to President Joe Biden for his unwavering support and trust in her. She also thanked her running mate, Governor Tim Walz, expressing confidence that his service will continue to make a positive impact.
Harris also acknowledged her "extraordinary" team for their immense contributions, as well as the poll workers and local election officials who played a vital role in ensuring a fair and efficient election process.
