Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris was a no-show at her own party, following a projected loss to Presidential rival Donald Trump.
She was meant to have an election night party at Howard University in Washington DC, where she is an alumni from batch 1986. It was found after midnight that she would not attend.
Trump dominated battleground states Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania and kept ahead of Harris by narrow margins in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, and Wisconsin, according to Reuters.
Upon campaign co-chairman Cedric Richmond’s announcement of Harris’ absence, the crowd melted away. Earlier, the celebratory mood had already soured when Trump’s win in two of the seven swing states was publicized.
Trump’s presence is anticipated at his own campaign watch party in West Palm Beach, Florida. Billionaire Elon Musk is to accompany him for election night.
