On Wednesday, their agency, SM Entertainment, confirmed reports that the 5-piece group "is preparing for a new album with the goal of a comeback in August," according to the Korena media outlet Soompi.
Their anticipated comeback is their first group activity approximately one year and a half since their 2019 repackaged album “The ReVe Festival: Finale” and its hit title track “Psycho.”
Following the confirmation, ReVeluvs all over the world took Twitter by storm with the "RED VELVET AUGUST COMEBACK" topping the list of trending topics, including the Philippines.
Red Velvet took hiatus in the first quarter of 2020 following Wendy's stage incident in December.
Since then, the members have been promoting both individually and together.
Irene & Seulgi made a successful unit debut with “Monster,” followed by Wendy releasing her solo debut album “Like Water” after returning from her year-long hiatus. She is the first member to debut as a solo.
And just last month, Joy made her successful solo debut with the remake album “Hello."
The group's maknae, Yeri, meanwhile officially made her acting debut.
During SM Entertainment's 2021 New Year's Day concert, Red Velvet performed with all of its members for the first time in over a year.
Debuted in 2014, the girl group has since released hit songs such as Dumb Dumb, Red Flavor, Russian Roulette, Bad Boy, and Psycho.
The group last visited Manila in June 2019 for the K-pop World Music Festival.
