An overstaying American national found to be a wanter person in Texas for taking improper and invasive photos was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration on Tuesday, May 9.
A suspect identified as Jason Clint Reed, 43, was arrested along Roxas Boulevard in Ermita, as reported by the acting chief of the BI’s fugitive unit, Rendell Ryan Sy, to Commissioner Norman Tansingco.
The agents who made the arrests were armed with a mission order issued by the BI head at the request of US authorities in Manila.
Reed, who will be deported, was discovered to be an unauthorized alien since his passport had already been withdrawn by the State Department.
According to the US government, on January 5, 2015, a district judge in Jefferson County, Texas, issued an arrest warrant for Reed after he was charged with unauthorized photo and visual recording.
In Texas, invasive visual recording is defined as photographing, filming, or broadcasting a person's sensitive parts in a private environment, such as a toilet or changing room, without the victim's consent.
If convicted of such a crime, a person may face a six-month to two-year prison sentence as well as a fine of up to USD 10,000.
Reed is now being held at the BI warden facility in Taguig City's Camp Bagong Diwa pending deportation proceedings.
