Students from kindergarten to grade 12 in Pasig City will receive P1,500 each for transport allowances under the Department of Education (DepEd)-Pasig, Mayor Vico Sotto announced on Friday, September 1.

In Sotto’s Facebook post, he announced that the distribution of the said transport allowance will start on September 6 to 15.

He also mentioned that the local government will continue its operation of providing school supplies to the students within the academic year once the delivery issues have been resolved.

"Hindi ko na muna idedetalye ang mga dahilan pero siguro masyado kami naging optimistic sa timeline at nagkulang sa buffer para sa mga aberya," Sotto said.

The Pasig Mayor apologized for the unforeseen circumstances with the distribution, explaining that it was the local government’s first time conducting such a school supply distribution.

"Alam kong maraming gastusin pag magpapasukan, kaya sana makabawi ako sa inyo kahit papaano sa pamamagitan ng nasabing cash allowance," he added.

Despite the lapses in school supply distribution, Sotto was pleased to inform the Pasigueos about the delivery, and the distribution of the first tranche of "Malusog na Batang Pasigueo" or MBP is still on track.

For the first tranche, it includes vitamins for children, canned tuna, and iodized salt, while the second tranche will have milk, which will be distributed this month, and the third tranche will be in the form of rice.

The MBP is Pasig City’s nutrition initiative to help public school students consume nutritious food while studying and learning.

Meanwhile, the school supplies are provided by the city annually, which include bags, notebooks, ballpoint pens, pencils, color pens, and crayons, among others.

With the transport allowance, Sotto hoped that it could financially assist the students this year due to the unexpected delays in delivery.
