Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito will only be joining the lower chamber's minority bloc once Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri is replaced.
He made the statement in a message to reporters on Tuesday, March 5.
"Kapag pinalitan si SP Migz, I will be joining the minority," Ejercito wrote.
At least thirteen senators on Monday signed a statement expressing support for Senate President Juan Miguel 'Migz' Zubiri amidst the change of leadership rumors.
"We stand firm behind the leadership of Senate President Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri, under whose guiding hand the Senate has maintained its dignity and independence as one of our nation's greatest bulwarks of democracy," the senators affirmed in the statement of support released Monday, March 4.
They praised Zubiri for his "consensus-building and consultative leadership" and said he shaped the Senate with wisdom and not with autocratic force.
As per the senators, their confidence in the Senate President grew stronger when he led them in opposing the People's Initiative to amend the 1987 Constitution.
Apart from the Senate minority bloc members Senator Koko Pimentel and Risa Hontiveros, other lawmakers who have yet to sign the statement as of writing are Senators Jinggoy Estrada, Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., Robin Padilla, Francis Escudero, Cynthia Villar, Imee Marcos, Pia Cayetano, and Alan Peter Cayetano.
