The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and various animal rights advocates strongly condemned the brutal killing of a dog named ‘Tiger’, at a public market in Subic, Zambales.
According to reports, Tiger was stabbed by a vendor after allegedly stealing meat from her stall, on Wednesday, March 26.
PAWS, in coordination with The Homeless Dog Shelter – Subic, Philippines, has taken immediate action and confirmed that local authorities are pursuing legal action.
“This horrific act of cruelty is unacceptable," PAWS stated. "We will not tolerate such inhumane treatment of animals, and we will do everything in our power to hold the perpetrator accountable,” the group added.
“If you have seen posts or reports of animal cruelty on social media, please take responsible action. Likes, shares, and tags will not bring justice—but working together to help witnesses file a case will,” the PAWS called on the public.
The suspect was already arrested and is now in the custody of the Subic Police Station.
This act of cruelty violates Republic Act 8485, also known as the Animal Welfare Act of the Philippines, which prohibits acts of animal cruelty, with penalties ranging from a fine of ₱100,000 to ₱500,000 and/or imprisonment of one to three years.
Tiger’s incident sparked outrage among animal rights organizations, who are calling for stronger enforcement of animal protection laws.
PAWS and local organizations vow to continue their fight against animal cruelty and push for stricter penalties to prevent similar tragedies.
