Following significant backlash, singer-actress Julie Anne San Jose and her management issued an apology for her performance inside Nuestra Señora del Pilar Parish, a church in Occidental Mindoro.
"I am offering my apologies. Even though my only intentions were to share joy and to give support to the church through the benefit concert, many have felt offended about the incident I was in and with my performance which caused distress," San Jose said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
"I truly, sincerely apologize.. This is a lesson learned and it is assured that it will not be repeated," she added.
She stated that while she may not be perfect, she possesses strong beliefs and her faith is unbreakable and cannot be shaken.
Meanwhile, San Jose's management, Sparkle GMA Artist Center, stated that they are taking full responsibility for their artist's attendance at the event.
They emphasized that it is their job to coordinate and clarify details with the organizers and relay instructions to their artist.
"Julie Anne only fulfilled her duties and commitment as a true professional. She is a devout Catholic and had no intention of disrespecting the Church or its members," the management said in a statement on Wednesday.
"We are truly sorry to those we have offended. We hope that this puts the issue to rest. We apologize to Julie Anne as well," they added.
The management promised to exercise greater caution in the future to prevent a similar incident from occurring again.
In the viral video, San Jose is seen performing "Dancing Queen" and "The Edge of Glory," which drew criticism and raised eyebrows among netizens.
The concerned netizens urged respect for the church, highlighting that it is a place of prayer and a sacred space.
Others also criticized her outfit during the performance, stating that it was too revealing and inappropriate for the setting.
According to reports, San Jose's performance at the said church was part of a benefit concert.
