Jose Calida has stepped down as the Commission on Audit (COA) chairperson, making him the third top official who resigned under the Marcos administration.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed Calida's resignation on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
"He tendered his resignation for many reason, but it's up to him to explain later to you or publish what were his reasons. But we accepted that with regret and we commended him for his patriotism, also for serving for a short while," he shared in an interview with the media.
Meanwhile, the COA announced that Calida was no longer the agency's chairman.
“Today, the President issued reappointment to 10 cabinet members. Unfortunately, Chair Calida was not one of those reappointed. The Commission will wait for the President’s appointment of a new Chair for COA,” it said in a statement.
Calida was among the officials whose ad interim appointments were bypassed by the Commission on Appointments (CA) last Sept. 28.
Other officials that were bypassed and were not included in the list of reappointed officials are Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles, Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy, and Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Nelson Java Celi.
Cruz-Angeles announced on Tuesday that she resigned from the post due to medical reasons.
Prior to Calida's resignation, the COA earlier disclosed that he took a medical leave which was why he was not able to attend the budget deliberations at the plenary of the House of Representatives on Sept. 23.
