Jordan Clarkson is set to join Gilas Pilipinas for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, as confirmed by the President of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, Al Panlilio, during a World Cup rally on Tuesday.
“It’s a good day for Philippine basketball. With Jordan Clarkson on board, the SBP looks forward to a competitive showing against the best in our region,” Panlilio announced.
Clarkson is expected to arrive in the Philippines on August 6, and he will start training with the team in China on the same date.
The talented shooting guard recently signed a contract extension with the Utah Jazz after an impressive season, averaging 20.8 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.4 rebounds in 61 regular-season games.
Speculations surrounding his World Cup availability were cleared with this announcement, as he will join the Filipino team to compete against the Dominican Republic, Angola, and Italy in the World Cup starting on August 25.
Gilas' first game will be held at the Philippine Arena, while the matches against Angola and Italy will take place at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
