Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla has stated that he has not yet had the opportunity to speak with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. regarding reports that he will be appointed as the next DILG Secretary.
"No conversation with the President regarding that matter," said Remulla to DZRH News on Saturday.
Based on the reports, Remulla's appointment will reportedly be announced soon after incumbent DILG Sec. Benhur Abalos will files his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator. Once Abalos officially submits his candidacy, he is anticipated to resign from his Cabinet position.
Remulla's brother, Jesus Crispin, currently serves as the Secretary of the Department of Justice.
Cavite, a province with a significant number of voters, provided President Marcos with over 1 million votes during the 2022 presidential election.
Other individuals reportedly considered for the position include Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco, National Security Adviser Eduardo Año, South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr., Quirino Governor Dakila Carlo Cua, and Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr.
