Outgoing Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" Abalos Jr. officially transferred leadership of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to newly appointed Secretary Juan Victor 'Jonvic' C. Remulla on Wednesday, October 9.

The turnover ceremony took place at the DILG-NAPOLCOM Center in Quezon City and was attended by officials.

"Masaya ako at panatag na iaabot ang tungkulin bilang kalihim ng DILG kay Secretary Jonvic Remulla na tiyak na magpapatuloy ng mga reporma na ating inilatag at isinulong sa loob ng mahigit dalawang taon," Abalos said in a Facebook post.

"Mahirap man ang trabaho ng isang DILG secretary, tiwala ako sa kakayahan ni Secretary Jonvic," he added.

Abalos further stated his belief that Remulla will succeed in his duties with the support of DILG staff and the various agencies that he has worked with, and that they will now assist him in advancing the current administration's goals for a safer, more prosperous, and united country.

On Remulla's part, he acknowledged that managing the DILG as an agency is challenging. However, he believes that with his extensive experience in local government and with the guidance of Abalos, he can perform well in the role.

He then recognized the significant contributions and dedicated service of outgoing DILG Secretary Abalos.

"I hope to be equal and I hope too, to make you proud of what we do, Sir. Thank you," said Remulla.

The new Secretary of the Interior and Local Government took his oath of office before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday, October 8.

Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Boying Remulla, recently confirmed the appointment of his brother as the DILG Chief.

Before his appointment, Remulla had nearly three decades of political experience, beginning as a Board Member for Cavite's Second District, followed by three terms as Vice Governor and four non-consecutive terms as Governor.

President Marcos appointed Remulla after Abalos resigned to run for a Senate seat under the administration’s coalition.
