Senator Jinggoy Estrada on Tuesday filed a resolution that expressed the Senate's strong opposition against the International Criminal Court's (ICC) decision to resume the probe into the crimes committed during the Duterte Administration's bloody drug war.

In Resolution 492, he claimed that the ICC's resumption of probe questions the country's "fully capable judicial system" and also disrespects its sovereignty.

According to the Estrada, the chamber itself "lacks enforcement body" as it still "relies on states' cooperation in investigation, particularly in making arrests and transferring arrested persons to the ICC detention in The Hague, and in enforcing sentences."

He said that the Philippine government has already shown that it will ensure that it will bring justice to victims.

The Senator cited that four of the 52 anti-narctics operations cases reviewed by the Department of Justice are pending before the trial courts.

Estrada's resolution comes a day after Senator Robinhood Padilla filed a resolution seeking to defend former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte from an possible investigation by the ICC.

Last week, former president and now House Senior Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and 18 other lawmakers filed a similar resolution urging the House of Representatives to declare "unequivocal defense" for Duterte against the International chamber.
