The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the license of the driver whose public utility jeepney (PUJ) collided with two other vehicles and turned turtle along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City, killing two and injuring 7 on Sunday.
Aside from the 90-day suspension, the transport agency also issued a show cause order against the jeepney owner and driver Chito Tabilog, 37, compelling an explanation as to why they should be spared the cases stacked against them, as reported by RH 5 Val Gonzales.
The owner has also been instructed to take the jeepney to the LTO Central Office for inspection and evaluation, along with his franchise documents.
“We want to have a clear picture of what happened so that appropriate sanctions would be imposed. We will also ask the drivers of the other motor vehicles involved for a statement as well as coordinate with the local police which is conducting a separate probe,” LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said.
Based on the initial investigation and CCTV footage, the speeding PUJ rammed into the rear of a modern jeepney, causing it to veer away and overturn, slamming again into a transport network vehicle service (TNVS) sedan traveling on an adjacent lane.
According to a report, all casualties were passengers of the PUJ. The incident occurred at around 6:30 AM on April 13.
Tabilog is currently under police custody and facing a series of charges, namely, reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, damage to properties, multiple injuries, and improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
