A passenger jeepney in Agora, San Juan City, rammed into a senior citizen and a motorcyclist, a store gate, and other vehicles after its driver lost control of the brakes while parking on Wednesday.
In a report by RH 52 Edniel Parrosa, the jeepney struck three other vehicles—an SUV, a car, and a motorcycle—the gate of a small store, an elderly pedestrian on the sidewalk, as well as a motorcycle rider.
The store gate was destroyed in the incident. Fortunately, however, the store was set to open later than usual for the holiday.
According to the driver’s account, he intended to park at an elevated space opposite the store when he lost control of the brakes, which led to the vehicle sliding backwards and crashing into the store behind.
“Paakyat ako sa Puregold. Bale, nabitin ako ng primera, dumulas ‘yung primera. Pumreno na ako, biglang pumutok ‘yung preno… Wala, nagdire-diretso na,” the driver told the reporter.
(I was going up the ramp of Puregold’s parking area. I got caught in first gear, and the first gear slipped. I braked, and suddenly the brakes snapped. It just went straight backwards.)
The elderly man was still conscious and responsive despite the accident. The San Juan Police and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) arrived at the scene shortly after.
