A rape case has been filed against hip-hop mainstay Jay-Z and music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs by an unnamed plaintiff who claimed she was sexually assaulted by the two at thirteen, way back in 2000.
Jay-Z, also known as Shawn Carter, was named in the amended lawsuit filed by an unknown woman going by “Jane Doe.” When first filed in October, the suit had two assailants redacted and only Combs listed. The inclusion of Carter came with its revision on Sunday, December 8.
It was alleged that during an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in a New York residence, Carter and Combs took turns sexually assaulting the victim, who was then a minor, while another undisclosed female star watched.
“Defendant Sean Combs, along with his longtime friend and collaborator Shawn Carter (a/k/a ‘JayZ’), drugged and raped a thirteen-year-old girl at an afterparty following the 2000 Video Music Awards. Another celebrity stood by and watched as Combs and Carter took turns assaulting the minor,” the suit read.
In the lawsuit, Doe stated that in 2000, she had approached limousines pulling into the Radio City Music Hall in an attempt to gain access to the VMAs. A limousine driver, who told Doe he worked for Combs, said she “fit what Diddy was looking for” and invited her to the awards show afterparty.
Doe was told to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) upon arriving at the party and was, at some point, drugged. The complaint claims Combs, with a “crazed look in his eyes,” told Doe, “You are ready to party!” after which she was raped.
“Plaintiff was held down by Carter as he vaginally raped her, while Combs and Celebrity B watched. After Carter finished, he stepped back toward the wall. Combs then stepped forward and vaginally raped Plaintiff while Carter and Celebrity B watched,” the case asserted.
Carter responded in a lengthy note posted on X, claiming the lawsuit to be an attempt at “blackmail.”
“My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a “lawyer” named Tony Buzbee,” the rapper began. “What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle.”
“No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion. So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!” he wrote.
Calling the allegations “heinous,” Carter “implore(d)” Jane Doe’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, to file a criminal case instead of a civil one.
“You have made a terrible error in judgement thinking that all “celebrities” are the same. I’m not from your world. I’m a young man who made it out of the project of Brooklyn. We don’t play these types of games. We have very strict codes and honor. We protect children, you seem to exploit people for personal gain,” he continued.
“I look forward to showing you just how different I am,” Carter stated.
Buzbee represents more than 100 plaintiffs who have filed charges against Combs.
