MANILA, Philippines – The Japanese multi-mission frigate JS Noshiro (FFM-3) conducted its inaugural port call at the Naval Operating Base in Subic (NOBS) on Wednesday, March 26, signalling the “increasing robust maritime partnership” between Japan and the Philippines.
“On 26 March 2025, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) vessel JS Noshiro (FFM-3), under the command of Commander Hori Tetsunobu, Commanding Officer JS Noshiro, successfully conducted its inaugural port call at the Naval Operating Base Subic (NOBS),” according to a news release from the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines.
The visit reaffirms both nations’ “unwavering commitment” to upholding peace, stability, and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific region, the embassy stated.
“Japan and the Philippines remain steadfast in realizing their shared vision of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), with both nations committed to further enhancing maritime cooperation,” the embassy added.
The Norishiro’s visit in the country is part of the Frigate Training 2025, an ongoing JMSDF initiative with the aim of “increasing operational readiness and strengthening defense partnerships.”
The port call follows Japanese Defense Minister Nakatani Gen’s visit to the Philippines last month.
