Philippine government officials are no longer be required to present visas when traveling to Japan, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has announced.
In a press release, the Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs said Kishida made the announcement during his summit meeting with President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. last February 9.
"President Marcos welcomed Japan’s announcement and expressed his hope to build upon this momentum to further facilitate people-to-people exchanges between the two countries," it added.
The Japanese Foreign Affairs did not provide more details on the visa exemption for government officials.
Marcos arrived in Tokyo, Japan for working visit last February 8.
So far, he has secured billions worth of investment pledges from Japanese firms that are anticipated to produce 10,000 jobs for Filipinos.
Meanwhile, 35 investment deals on infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, and healthcare have been signed between the Philippines and leading Japanese firms during Marcos' visit.
Alongside, seven key bilateral agreements which spanned different ranges such as agriculture, infrastructure, diplomatic relations, and disaster and humanitarian aid have also been inked.
