The Department of Justice (DOJ) has confirmed that the International Criminal Police Organization issued a red notice to former Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr.
"On February 27, 2024, the Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC) of the Republic of the Philippines, in collaboration with the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), announced the issuance of a Red Notice for former Congressman Arnolfo “Arnie” A. Teves Jr.," DOJ said in a press release posted on Wednesday.
The red notice, according to the justice department, is an international alert that helps "locate and provisionally detain a person awaiting extradition or similar legal action, based on a valid arrest warrant from the requesting country."
In September 2023, the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 51 ordered the arrest of Teves, the alleged mastermind in the March 4 assassination of former Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo and nine civilian.
He is also facing three counts of murder in connection with the death of three individuals in Negros Oriental back in 2019.
On February 8, the Manila RTC Branch 51 ordered the cancellation of Teves' passport.
The former lawmaker, who is designated "terrorist" by the ATC, has yet to return to the country since February last year.
