The Provincial Government of Antique confirmed on Thursday, Dec.7, that another victim in the bus accident perished, pushing the death toll to 18.
“The entire Antiqueño community is deeply saddened by the unfortunate loss of our fellow kasimanwas in the recent tragic incident at the notorious "killer curve," resulting in the tragic loss of eighteen lives,” it said in a Facebook post.
The Antique Provincial Government vowed that it would ensure the protection of both motorists and passengers passing through the highway of the mountainous area in Brgy. Igbucagay, which they call a “killer curve.”
“The Provincial Government of Antique is actively implementing essential measures to address the safety concerns in this accident-prone zone,” it said.
On Tuesday, Dec. 5, a Ceres bus, carrying 28 individuals, fell off a ravine in Brgy. Igbucagay in the Municipality of Hamtic.
Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao earlier told DZRH that the bus lost its brake while traversing the “killer curve”.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on the Ceres Bus Liner.
In an interview with DZRH, LTFRB Spokesperson Celine Pialago said the bus drivers of Ceres Bus Liner will be mandated to attend road safety seminars and be drug tested.
