Incoming DOTr Sec. Bautista: I-transform natin ang transport industry ng Pilipinas into global standard
by Mary Adelene Antolin24 June 2022

Former Philippine Airlines (PAL) President and incoming Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista shared his views on transforming the Philippines' transport industry to a global standard.

Bautista made the statement in an interview with the DZRH program DosPorDos on Thursday, June 23.

When asked what are the instructions given by President-elect Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. upon his agreement to assume the position of DOTs secretary, Bautista said that instead of an instruction Marcos asked him what should they do with the DOTr.

Bautista said he 'simply' replied by saying to transform the transportation industry into a global standard. He added that it is a simple statement but will be a challenging process.

He further explained that there should be a reform in all transportation sectors: rail, land, water, or aviation. He said that the procedures, policies, and infrastructure should be at par with those of developed countries.

“Dapat itransform natin ang transport industry ng Pilipinas into global standard. Ibigsabihin niya we should implement a lot of reform in all the sectors, the transport sectors. Be it rail, land, water, or aviation. Ibigsabihin dapat yung mga ginagawa natin yung ating mga procedures, policies, infastructures, ay dapat katulad nung mga developed countries,” said Bautista

Bautista continued on by explaining what global standards meant and that transport facilities should be 'friendly' to the commuters and 'efficient procedures' which equates to low cost for the operators which translates to lower fares.
