July 24, Monday, witnessed a surge of demonstrations as various groups of protesters assembled in different locations, gearing up for President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s second State of the Nation Address (SONA).
In Baguio City, a progressive group known as "Progresibong grupo sa Baguio" launched a "peaceful rally" prior to President Marcos Jr.'s SONA2023. The demonstrators aimed to voice their concerns and demands during this significant national event.
Meanwhile, tensions escalated in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City, where one of President Marcos Jr.'s supporters obstructed and lay down in front of a jeepney strike organized by the group "Manibela."
Adding their voice to the protests, the group "LILAK," along with indigenous women human rights defenders, took to the streets, calling on the people to defend truth amid alleged lies propagated by the Marcos administration. The demonstrators emphasized the importance of holding the government accountable for its actions.
During the protest, various progressive groups were seen carrying effigies, each representing their grievances and aspirations, coinciding with President Marcos Jr.'s second SONA.
Notably, another group at Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City, began burning an effigy representing President Marcos Jr. The symbolic act served as an expression of dissent and criticism against the current administration.
Addressing vital issues, the "Health Alliance for Democracy" launched the "State of People's Health" program in Commonwealth, Quezon City. The group demanded better wages and benefits for medical workers, seeking improvements in the healthcare system.
Additionally, militant groups convened at Recto Quezon Boulevard, Quiapo, joining the collective call for social justice, transparency, and accountability in the government's policies and actions.
