The city of Imus in Cavite on Thursday suspended vaccinations for children aged five to 11 years old due to a shortage of the approved Pfizer vaccine for kids.
"Pansamantalang ihihinto ang pedia vaccination para sa mga edad 5 hanggang 11 taong gulang, bunsod ng kakulangan sa supply ng bakunang Pfizer," Imus Mayor Emanuel Maliksi announced on Facebook.
(Pedia vaccination for children aged five to 11 years old is temporarily stopped due to a shortage of the Pfizer vaccine.)
Pfizer is the only approved vaccine brand that can be used for pediatric vaccination, and Maliksi said there are not enough Pfizer jabs arriving in the city.
According to the Imus mayor, the city government is already coordinating with the Department of Health (DOH) on the arrival of the next batch of Pfizer jabs
Maliksi said the shortage reflects the high demand for vaccines in the city, and appealed to the DOH to not waste people's desire to protect themselves and their families.
"Huwag po nating sayangin ang kagustuhan ng taongbayan na maprotektahan ang kanilang sarili at pamilya!" he said.
(Let us not waste the people’s desire to protect themselves and their families.)
Imus has 27 remaining active cases of COVID-19 as of March 9, according to the city government, while it has recorded over 26,000 COVID-19 infections since the pandemic began.
