The impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte is not likely to proceed, given the Senate’s year-end schedule and election campaigns to begin in early 2025.
“We will adjourn on December 18. We will resume on January 13. We will adjourn again, first week of February,” Senator Jinggoy Estrada said.
The Senate will be adjourning once more on February 7 for the campaigning season, and resume after the national and local elections.
Aside from having so little time left on the legislative calendar to properly address the complaint, Sen. Estrada believes an impeachment will not benefit Filipinos, as with his father Joseph “Erap” Estrada’s terminated presidency and the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., who went into exile.
