Following the brutal assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and five others, senator Imee Marcos suggested that the entire province be placed under a state of emergency to swiftly serve justice for the latter's death.

As someone who worked with Degamo during her term as Ilocos Norte's governor, Marcos said that Negros Oriental should be locked down to prevent the suspects behind the killing from leaving the province.

During an interview after visiting Degamo's wake in Dumaguete City, the senator called to declare a state of emergency in the entire province as soon as possible to curb the killing incidents and arrest the people behind them, pertaining to the mastermind of the assassination.

Moreover, Marcos expressed a glimpse of hope that the suspects who were already arrested will work with the authorities in leading the identification of other individuals responsible for the gun attack on Saturday.

She paid tribute to her former colleague, commending the late governor's contribution to initiating local peace talks with the New People's Army (NPA) through former president Rodrigo Duterte at that time.

On March 28, the senator is supposedly scheduled to visit Negros Oriental to lead a distribution of assistance to individuals in crisis situations alongside Degamo.

Meanwhile, senators Juan Miguel Zubiri, Ramon Revilla Jr., Sherwin Gatchalian, Grace Poe, and Lito Lapid condemned the gun attack, as did Vice President Sara Duterte.
