Senator Imee Marcos announced on Saturday her decision to withdraw from the administration slate for the upcoming 2025 midterm elections, where she will run for a Senate post.
"Pinipili kong manindigan nang malaya't matatag...na wala dapat kampihan kundi ang Sambayanang Pilipino," Marcos said in a video statement posted in her social media account.
Marcos acknowledged that it is not easy to stand alone in a campaign and in politics, but this is a legacy from her father that she reflects on in making her decision.
"Minabuti kong tumindig mag-isa upang huwag nang malagay sa alanganin ang aking ading, para wag nang mag-alinlangan ang aking mga tunay na kaibigan," said Marcos.
Marcos indicated that she prefers to maintain her freedom and integrity, serving not just a particular group, but every Filipino.
The presidential sister expressed her gratitude to her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., for defending her and including her in the alliance, despite the anger and extreme cruelty from some people that she is receiving.
Marcos also thanked the Nacionalista Party and her other allies for their continued support.
"Nawa'y manatili ang tiwala ninyo," said Marcos.
On September 26, President Marcos announced the names of the twelve senatorial candidates for the 'Bagong Pilipinas' alliance in the 2025 midterm elections, including incumbent Senator Imee Marcos, who was not present at the event where they were introduced.
