Senator Imee Marcos on Wednesday, Nov. 22, questioned House lawmakers' call on the Philippine government to cooperate with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in its probe into the war against drugs.
"Who are the lawmakers pushing for foreign interference in our justice system? Why are they intent upon the subjugation of the independent Philippine judicial system to foreign entities?" Marcos said in a statement posted on her official Facebook page.
She cited that his brother, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr., had already stated that the Philippines will not cooperate with the international chamber as the local judicial system is working.
"He [President Marcos] has consistently said that our courts will not be rendered subordinate to the ICC, and that we are a sovereign nation with its own system of justice," the Senator said.
"Let's stand our ground, as the President has done many, many times," Marcos added.
Meanwhile, in an ambush interview with reporters on the same day, she said Filipinos "should be ashamed" for allowing the ICC to enter the country's premises and probe the alleged crimes against humanity during Duterte admin's drug war.
"Mahiya naman tayo bilang Pilipino. Ipapasa pa raw yung ICC resolution na pakialaman tayo ng dayuhan. Samantalang may korte naman na papatunayan naman na umaandar, malaya, at matibay. Bakit naman masusunod ang iba?" Marcos stressed.
Albay 1st District Rep. Edcel Lagman and Quezon City 6th District Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr. and 1-Rider Partylist Ramon Rodrigo Gutierrez recently filed their respective House Resolution urging the Philippine government departments and agencies to "extend their full cooperation" to the Office of the Prosecutor of the ICC.
