Senator Imee Marcos urged the Philippine National Police (PNP) to work closely with the local government units (LGUs) to implement a possible curfew on selling and purchasing alcohol in areas with high rape cases.
During the Senate hearing on public order and dangerous drugs on Thursday, Sept. 15, Marcos claimed that incidents of rape involve alcohol and drugs, and it happens during payday, fiesta, concerts, and other public occasions.
PNP earlier reported that there are 149 recorded crimes against female students from July to August this year.
It said that the majority of reported crimes are rape cases and they mostly happened in the National Capital Region (NCR).
“Makipag-liege na tayo sa ating mga LGUs kung lalagyan ng curfew itong alcohol sales and purchases. Lagyan siguro ng hinto dyan sa mga lugar at mga dating laganap ang panggagahasa para hindi na po ito maulit,” she said.
The Senator further asked the PNP to contact its international counterparts such as the Ministry of Public Security of China which helped in combating crimes and drugs during former president Rodrigo Duterte's administration.
She also suggested to them to contact the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) security network.
“Magtulungan tayo kasama ang ating mga kapitbahay sa Asia,” she added.
Marcos earlier called the PNP and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for the urgent investigation and arrest of individuals who are behind the rape and murder of female children.
She earlier emphasized that law enforcement officials should show no mercy against criminals.
