Senator Imee Marcos on Thursday called for an immediate reshuffle of the highest officials of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

In a statement, she asserted that “the unauthorized and fraudulent use” of the Office of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to the justify importation of sugar is proof that “thick-faced smugglers” are lording it over at the DA.

“Huwag niyong niloloko ang ading ko!” the Senator warned.

Marcos also urged the removal of criminal syndicates within the government.

The statement was issued after Malacañang on Thursday said President Marcos, chairman of the Sugar Regulatory Board, has rejected the proposal to import 300,000 metric tons of sugar.

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angele said an investigation is ongoing over the “unauthorized” signing of Sugar Order No. 4.

The low sugar production in the country is caused by Typhoon Odette in December last year which damaged sugar mills and sugarcane crops in the country.
