Iloilo City was placed under a state of calamity on Monday, April 22, due to the shortage of water amid the El Niño phenomenon.
According to RH Aine Grace Bravo's report, the Iloilo City Council adopted and approved in a special session the resolution recommending the state of calamity in the city.
The Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council crafted the said resolution, citing that more than 15 percent of households in various barangays have been experiencing water crisis.

The Iloilo City Council also approved the ₱12.5 million budget to implement interventions against water shortage in the city.
Interventions include purchasing 53 big water tanks for the affected barangays and additional water supplies to be used for water rationing.
The special session was led by Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon.
