Iloilo City declares state of calamity due to Odette

The city government of Iloilo has declared a state of calamity following the onslaught of Typhoon Odette, allocating over PHP 42-million cash assistance to those affected, Mayor Jerry Treñas announced on Tuesday.

In a special session, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRM) said the typhoon affected about 72,523 individuals, or 15.85 percent of the city’s population

“With the challenges left by Typhoon Odette, a session was conducted by the City Council to declare the metro under the State of Calamity so we can provide financial assistance to the victims of the storm,” he said in a Facebook post.

Treñas also announced that households with totally damaged homes will receive PHP 10,000 assistance while those with partially damaged homes will have PHP 4,3000.

No movement on prices of goods are allowed in the next 60 days due to the state of calamity, he added.

As of Tuesday, one fatality was reported in Iloilo City due to the typhoon, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
