The province of Ilocos Norte has been placed under a state of calamity due to the severe damage inflicted by Typhoon Carina and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
"The typhoon brought heavy rain, strong winds, and severe floods that caused massive damages to properties, agricultural crops, and disruption of means of livelihood in different areas of the Province," the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte said in an announcement.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that the powerful storms have significantly impacted approximately 140,000 residents and caused an estimated PHP 1,011,405,521.51 in damage to infrastructure and agricultural lands.
With the state of calamity declared, emergency funds will be allocated to support rehabilitation and recovery efforts across the affected areas. This measure aims to expedite relief operations and restore normalcy in the province.
Authorities and aid organizations are mobilizing resources to assist residents and begin rebuilding as the province works to recover from the unprecedented natural disaster.
