The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) on Wednesday recommended the filing of charges against eight congressmen who own construction companies and have handled projects with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

In a press conference held in Taguig City, retired Supreme Court Justice and ICI head Andres Reyes named the following congressmen-contractors the probe body is seeking to charge:

  • Former Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co

  • CWS Party-list Rep. Edwin Gardiola

  • Uswag Ilonggo Party-list Rep. James Ang Jr.

  • Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jernie Nisay

  • Bulacan 2nd District Rep. Augustina Pancho

  • Cagayan 3rd District Rep. Joseph Lara

  • Surigao Del Norte 1st District Rep. Francisco Matugas

  • Tarlac 3rd District Rep. Noel Rivera

The commission recommended that the Office of the Ombudsman file criminal and administrative charges against them over some 1,300 projects awarded to their or their families’ companies from 2016 until 2024, reported RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort.

Previously, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that arrest warrants have been issued against resigned Congressman Elizaldy Co and 17 others from the DPWH and Sunwest Corp.
