The International Criminal Court (ICC) is seeking freelance transcribers fluent in both Filipino and Cebuano languages.

"A roster of freelance transcribers will be established as a result of this selection process. Once accredited, freelance transcribers may be offered contracts for the provision of remote transcription services in keeping with the operational needs of the Unit,” the job posting on their website read.

Transcribers selected by the ICC will serve as individual contractors, working within the Language Services Unit (LSU) of the Integrated Services Division under the Office of the Prosecutor.

Moreover, the scope of services includes producing self-reviewed transcripts quickly and accurately from audio or video recordings, in accordance with LSU guidelines and glossaries.

The transcriber can also consult with LSU Transcription to clarify any ambiguities, assist in building glossaries, and provide feedback.

Ultimately, the hired individual may incorporate the feedback provided by LSU Transcription to ensure the delivery of a high-quality product.

Applicants must be proficient in listening to, understanding, and writing in Filipino and/or Tagalog and/or Cebuano. A working knowledge of English is also a prerequisite.

“Mindful of the nature of the ICC’s mandate and operations, freelance transcribers must understand that the audio/video material outsourced for transcription may on occasion risk being of an upsetting or disturbing nature,” the posting also read.

Further details about the freelance role can be found on the ICC website. The application deadline is December 31, 2025.

Notably, the job opening for a freelance transcriber was posted on January 28, over a month before the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is facing charges of crimes against humanity.

However, the ICC job posting does not mention any direct connection to the former president's case.

The 79-year-old Duterte, a native Cebuano or Visayan speaker, is now detained in The Hague, Netherlands, after his arrest on March 11.

Duterte appeared in his first ICC hearing via video link, during which he was informed of the crimes he is accused of and made aware of his rights as a defendant.

The confirmation hearing for the charges against him is scheduled for September 23, 2025.
