MANILA – Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjárto will embark on an official visit to the Philippines on Thursday, 13 June 2024.

In an announcement from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), it mentions the visit as part of Foreign Minister Szijjártó’s official tour of Southeast Asia, and his third trip to Manila in his current role.

He previously visited the country in 2017, meeting then-acting Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo; and in 2020, with then-Secretary Teodoro Locsin, Jr.

According to the DFA, Foreign Minister Szijjártó will meet with Manalo, as the bilateral meeting will also serve as the 8th iteration of the Philippines-Hungary Political Consulatations.

The 7th round of Political Consultations was held in Budapest in 2022, the DFA added.

The DFA also confirms that Minister Szijjártó will also meet with Secretary Alfredo E. Pascual of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

“Hungary is a key partner of the Philippines in the areas of education, water technology, agriculture, culture, and sports. The two countries’ relations are marked by a shared commitment to democracy, rule of law, and compliance with international law,” the statement read.

The visit will also highlight the ongoing celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Hungary, the DFA stated.
