With China’s allegation that the Philippines promised to remove BRP Sierra Madre from Ayungin Shoal following the water attack incident during the resupply mission of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Makabayan bloc on Wednesday formally requested the House of Representatives to conduct an investigation about it.
According to Beijing, Manila had already agreed to remove the BRP Sierra Madre from the Ayungin Shoal in the West Philippine Sea but had yet to present evidence to support its claims.
In House Resolution 1215, it stated, "While China has yet to show any proof that such an agreement happened, this warrants a thorough investigation to ascertain if the claim is true or China is only making this up."
It added that if there is any truthfulness to the claim, the Congress must identify who the traitor was in the Philippine government who compromised the sovereign and territorial integrity and must join the call to be punished in accordance with the law.
With such accusations, the camps of former presidents Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Joseph Estrada, and Rodrigo Duterte have denied making such a commitment to China.
