The House of Representatives has adopted House Resolution No. 758, honoring the life and legacy of the late former House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr.

According to a report by RH Milky Rigonan, the memorial service will be led by Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III and members of the 20th Congress, as lawmakers pay tribute to one of the most influential figures in the chamber’s history.

On Wednesday, the House adopted House Resolution No. 758, honoring the late lawmaker’s life and legacy. The resolution was authored by Dy, House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos, and several other lawmakers, including representatives from various party-list groups.

The House will hold a memorial service for De Venecia Jr. on Monday, February 16, at 10 a.m. at the Plenary Hall.

The former Speaker passed away on February 10 at the age of 89.

He will be laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on February 18.

De Venecia, widely known as JDV, holds the distinction of being the only member of the House to have served as Speaker for five terms. He led the chamber during the 9th, 10th, 12th, 13th, and 14th Congresses.

He also represented the 2nd and 4th districts of Pangasinan during his long legislative career.

In the resolution, the House described de Venecia as an “architect of political unity,” citing his efforts in consolidating seven diverse political parties into the historic “Rainbow Coalition.”

Beyond his political career, lawmakers also recognized de Venecia’s contributions as an economist, journalist, and diplomat.

The resolution highlighted his role in conceptualizing and implementing the overseas Filipino dollar-remittance program during his diplomatic service in Vietnam.

It also noted his business ventures in the Middle East and North Africa, which generated employment opportunities for thousands of Filipinos.

The memorial service on Monday is expected to gather current and former lawmakers, government officials, and members of de Venecia’s family to honor his decades of public service and enduring impact on Philippine politics.

Tributes from fellow lawmakers, local officials, and citizens continue to pour in as the nation remembers a veteran public servant whose legacy remains deeply rooted in Dagupan and Philippine politics.
