Lawmakers are urging a thorough investigation into possible Philippine-based operations connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, highlighting concerns over trafficking, online sexual abuse, and exploitation of minors.

House Resolution 762, filed by Representative Sarah Elago of the Gabriela Women’s Party along with members of the Makabayan bloc, seeks to examine any individuals or corporations that may have facilitated Epstein’s international operations. Elago emphasized that these connections, if proven, must be “seriously investigated to ensure accountability and prevent further harm.”

“Philippines has often been affected by cases of trafficking, online sexual abuse, and gender-based violence,” Elago said. “We cannot allow the labor and services of our people to be exploited to cover up operations and crimes targeting women and children.”

The call for investigation follows the release of the “Epstein files,” which reportedly revealed a Philippine-based team managing digital operations and reputation services to sanitize Epstein’s online image. Epstein, who was arrested in 2019 for sexually abusing multiple underage girls, died in prison while awaiting trial, leaving questions about his international networks still unresolved.

Lawmakers stressed that the probe would not only expose potential local links to global criminal activity but also reinforce protections for vulnerable populations, particularly women and children, in the Philippines.
