The House of Representatives Quad-Committee cited Tony Yang in contempt for lying about his relations on Friday, September 27.
The eldest brother of former presidential economic adviser Michael Yang was summoned to appear before the seventh public hearing on POGOs. During the interpellation, Yang was asked about his business partners and associates. However, Yang repeatedly denied his relations with Allan Lim, stating that he does not know him personally.
Allan Lim is said to be involved in Yang's rice milling business in Cagayan de Oro. Moreover, Yang also denied his associations with other personalities.
“I want to show a video to the members of this Committee. Para makita natin kung anong klaseng personality meron si (Tony Yang). Aside from nilalabag niya yung ating batas, binababoy niya din yung mga opisyales ng ating gobyerno,” Laguna Representative Dan Fernandez said.
“Alam niyo kung bakit? Because of this video that I will show you. Nakita natin na yung kanyang ginagawang pang-aabuso sa mga kababayan natin, na dito mismo sa ating bayan, samantalang sila ay mga banyaga,” he added.
The footage showed Tony Yang inside the airport, heading to immigration. He did not follow established procedures, nor showed any respect to the immigration officers. He was seen walking past the personnel, instead of submitting to an inspection.
“He established a lot of pakikisama to all those people. Basically, we Filipinos (also) have something to be regretful (of), kasi pinapabayaan natin na babuyin tayo ng mga banyagang gaya nito,”
For that reason, Fernandez moved that Tony Yang be cited in contempt, with no objections from the House.
Tony Yang’s contempt citation violated Section 11 of the Rules of Procedures Governing Inquiries in Aid of Legislation.
He was ordered to be detained in the Quezon City Jail.
