House probes almost 300,000 'excess deaths' in 2021
by Kristan Carag02 March 2024

The House of Representatives conducts an investigation on the almost 300,000 'excess deaths' in 2021 amidst the 2019 Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic

Based on the records of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the country recorded 879,429 deaths in 2021, 43.2 percent compared to the 613,936 deaths registered in 2020.

Laguna 1st District Rep. Danilo Fernandez, who filed House Resolution No. 1481, suspects that the deaths stemmed from the 2019 COVID-19 vaccination program.

"Nung pumasok ang vaccine, maraming tao ang biglang namatay, ang health sila na biglang nagkaroon ng heart attack, myocarditis," Fernandez said on Friday, March 1, during DZRH's Damdaming Bayan.

"Ang aming tinatanong ay may kinalaman ba iyon doon sa vaccine na tinurok sa atin," he added

Fernandez said that the probe also seeks to inquire whether the resolutions of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) violated Republic 11525, also known as the COVID-19 Vaccination Program Act of 2021.

The congressman stressed that RA 11525 does not require people to receive a vaccine against COVID-19.

"Naapektuhan yung human right ng ating mga tao dahil we were forced to have a vaccination because of these resolutions that the IATF issued," Fernandez stressed.

"You have the right naman talaga to get vaccinated but you also have the right not to be vaccinated kasi it is your health, kalusugan mo iyon. Ang problem doon sa resolution that was issued by the government, the IATF, we were forced to do that," he added.

PSA reported that ischaemic heart diseases caused the most number of deaths in 2021 (155,775 cases), followed by cerebrovascular diseases (85,904 cases), and identified cases of COVID-19 (79,423).
