On Tuesday, the House of Representatives approved on third and final reading a bill that legalizes the utilization of medical marijuana in the country.
House Bill No. 10439 or the Access to Medical Cannabis Act will permit the use of medical marijuana or cannabis for qualified patients giving them appropriate access.
During the session yesterday, the bill garnered 177 nods from lawmakers eventually leading to its approval. Nine lawmakers voted against the bill and nine others abstained.
The bill stated that a qualified patient must be diagnosed by an accredited physician. Additionally, the diagnosis must be a medical condition associated with medical cannabis as treatment.
Furthermore, the bill mandates the establishment of the Medical Cannabis Office which will serve as the regulatory body for the use and accessibility of medical marijuana.
The same office will be assigned to accredit doctors who will be allowed to prescribe medical cannabis to their patients.
