A solon said on Monday that the House Committee on Labor and Employment will slowly begin the process on the proposed measure seeking wage hikes for private sector workers following the Senate’s P100 legislative wage hike that was approved last week.
According to panel chair Rizal Rep. Julian Felipe Nograles, the proposed measure will be thoroughly studied, researched, and discussed with the investors and employers who are providing jobs for Filipinos.
He added that they need to hear the side of the investors and business owners, as they will be the ones affected when tackling the salary.
Nograles mentioned that they feel no pressure from the Senate’s approval of the legislated wage hike bill, explaining that some things need to be considered.
With the proposal for the legislated wage hike that ranges from P150 to P350 per day, two progressive lawmakers expressed their openness to the House leadership discussing such a measure.
However, they also emphasized that the amount is not enough to address the gap between the current minimum wage and the family living costs in the country.
In an interview, ACT Teachers Party List Rep. France Castro said that they look positively on the P350 wage hike proposal as it can help families sustain their needs. However, she stated that the hike is still not enough for the family living wage.
Meanwhile, employers warned that the P350 wage hike may badly affect the business, and proposals suggesting a higher increase than P100 will have disastrous consequences.
