All eyes are on the House of Representatives as lawmakers anticipate a major shake-up following the resignation of Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez as House Speaker of the 20th Congress.

According to RH Milky Rigonan's report, House Deputy Majority Leader Lorenz Defensor confirmed that Deputy Speaker Faustino “Bodjie” Dy III, who is poised to take over as the new Speaker, has already met with several House leaders, led by Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno, chairman of the National Unity Party (NUP).

According to Defensor, Romualdez’s resignation is "a good place to start if we want to rebuild [the] House of Representatives and gain public trust."

Dy has reportedly begun reaching out to various political parties to secure broader support.

His initial talks have been with the NUP, with the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) lined up next.

In an exclusive interview on DZRH’s Dos Por Dos, Antipolo 1st District Representative and House Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno said that Romualdez is set to step down from his post, and Romualdez has recommended Dy III as his replacement.

Amid reports that Romualdez had left the country last night, his staff confirmed that the former Speaker remains in the House on Wednesday, September 17.

Meanwhile, despite the looming resignation of Romualdez, morale in the lower chamber remains high.

According to House Deputy Speaker Jhay Khonghun of Zambales, backed Puno, claims that Romualdez has given his full support to Dy.

Khonghun said Romualdez continues to emphasize the need for lawmakers to work together and to maintain their support for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

He added that Romualdez’s decision to resign was driven by his deep concern for the institution and to put an end to accusations and criticisms that have been directed at the House.

Meanwhile, despite the anticipated change in leadership, it remains business as usual in the chamber. As the Budget deliberations for the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) conducted.
