On Thursday, the Committee on Labor and Employment approved the Committee Report on the substitute bill proposing a ₱200 across-the-board salary increase for private sector employees and workers.
With the committee’s approval, the measure will now be taken up for deliberation in the plenary.
"In line with the declared policy under this Act, all employers in the private sector, whether agricultural or non-agricultural, regardless of capitalization and number of employees, shall pay their workers an across-the-board wage increase in the sum of Two hundred pesos (P200.00) a day upon the effectivity of this Act," the document stated.
Once the ₱200 daily minimum wage hike is enacted, workers will receive a new minimum wage of ₱845, up from the current ₱645.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez recently met with representatives from labor groups and employers, during which a consensus was reached to set the daily minimum wage increase at ₱200.
Romualdez highlighted the importance of adjusting wages, pointing out that the previous legislated wage increase was enacted more than three decades ago.
Meanwhile, the House Speaker calls for safeguards to protect MSMEs, recognizing their crucial role in sustaining the economy.
Among the pending wage bills in the committee are the ₱150 wage hike proposed by TUCP Party-list Representative Democrito Mendoza and the ₱750 wage increase proposed by the Makabayan Bloc.
