The House Infra Committee is alarmed over the Senate’s decision to transfer former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan Assistant District Engineer Brice Hernandez to the Pasay City Jail.

RH Milky Rigonan reported on late Wednesday, September 10, that the Committee co-chair and Bicol Saro Partylist Rep. Terry Ridon said individuals inside the said city jail as convicted criminals. With this, the lawmaker emphasized that Hernandez is still considered a resource person.

“Ang panawagan po natin sa kabuuan po ng Senado, sana po pag-isipan pong muli [at] i-reconsider po itong desisyon na ito. Dahil I think mayroong magiging mabigat na banta sa buhay po ni Brice Hernandez kung lilipat siya mula sa PNP Custodial Center papunta po sa Pasay City Jail,” Ridon stressed.

Hernandez would be a key figure in the Congress’ investigation into the anomalous flood control projects, Ridon said.

Ridon also appealed that the Senate take custody of Hernandez again, pointing out that the latter would be safer under its custody.

Hernandez arrived at the Pasay City Jail on Wednesday evening, accompanied by personnel from the Police Security and Protection Group, the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

He was also with his legal counsel, but the latter declined to answer questions from the media.

Prior to this, tensions arose during the Senate session, as senators discussed Hernandez’ transfer from the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame to the Pasay City Jail.
